Formal Ceremony of Embung

On Friday the 17th October 2008, a ceremony of the embung (water catchment) was conducted at Beji village, Ngawen sub-district, Gunungkidul district. That was a special activity of the program of Nurturing Democracy through Interfaith in Gunungkidul, a cooperation between SATUNAMA, Yogyakarta, and The Asia Foundation, Jakarta.
The idea of the embung construction was based on the Team 13’s identification on some problems came up in Beji village.

In addition to catch rainy water, the 2.5 m embung has also functioned as a bridge of the two sub-villages and made an easier access of Bendo sub-village community to travel to a public cemetery.

The building process was done in three months funded by community self-help funds (Rp 16.9 million) and SATUNAMA/The Asia Foundation (Rp 29.6 million). (ed)

Hari Jumat, 17 Oktober 2008, bertempat di Desa Beji, Kecamatan Ngawen, Kabupaten Gunungkidul, diadakan peresmian bangunan embung (penangkap air). Pembuatan embung di wilayah ini merupakan kegiatan khusus dalam program Nurturing Democracy through Interfaith di Gunungkidul, yang merupakan kerjasama antara SATUNAMA, Yogyakarta, dengan The Asia Foundation, Jakarta.

Gagasan pembangunan embung muncul berdasarkan hasil identifikasi sebuah tim yang beranggotakan 13 orang (tim 13) terhadap berbagai permasalahan yang ada di Desa Beji.

Selain digunakan untuk menampung air hujan, embung dengan lebar kurang lebih 2,5 m ini juga berfungsi sebagai jalan penghubung antar dua dusun, serta mempermudah akses warga Dusun Bendo ke pemakaman umum setempat.

Proses pembangunan dilakukan selama tiga bulan, dengan swadaya dari masyarakat dan program, masing-masing sebesar Rp 16,9 juta dan Rp 29,6 juta. (ed)
